THE BEST DAY EVER
Who would have thought that our small 9 member team could make such an impact on a strong, competitive region, consisting of top schools such as Cornell University and Skidmore College. We finished the year in a dissappointing seventh place after holding sixth for the whole year. We did, however, have over 200 team points, this is a first for BU. Our Open Rider Ali Levy (seen here) was the region's THIRD PLACE OPEN RIDER FOR THE YEAR!!!!!!!!!! Ali was beaten only by Skidmore's top two open riders. We had three riders qualify for Regionals, Ali in Open Flat and Fences, Rachel Pech in Intermediate Flat and Fences and Kelly Palmer in Novice Flat and Fences.

Congratulations Ali on a great, successful season!
ALI LEVY PLACED 3ED IN OPEN OVER FENCES

After a great Sophomore year, our open rider Ali qualified for Regionals in both fences and flat classes. This is extremely difficult, because open riders have only the current year to aquire points to qualify for regionals.

To our delight Ali drew Slew, a wonderful Eq horse. She laid down a solid first round, she was called back in 3rd. All riders rode the same horse in the test. With some slight flaws in the flat portion of the test, Ali again jumped a solid round in the test. She remained in third. This qualified her for zones. She attended zones and again had a perfect first round, called back for testing. She missed a spot on the very last fence in the test. She came in fith. We are so proud to have an open rider at zones and a fifth is a great placing againsnt the zones top open riders. Ali is looking forward to another great year and we have our sights on the number one spot.

Kelly Palmer - Novice Fences Regional Champion
It only took Kelly 3 semesters to qualify for Regionals. She a drew Aspen, a lovely hunter type. She laid down a clean, flawless first round and was called back in 2nd place to test. The test involved a sitting trot to a posting trot figure eight. I told her to look the judge in the eye as she started posting on the correct diagonal. She followed my advice and never looked back. Kelly owned the class at that point. She nailed every fence, taking the time to really think about a correct postion. As they read the placing down from 8th we got more and more excited. When they called reserve and it was not her, we all let out a big yell. It was a well deserved win.

Congratulations Kelly! Good luck in the Intermediate Division!

Rachel Pech - Intermediate Fences Reserve Champion

This was Rachel's last year on the team and last opportunity to qualify for zones. The pressure was on. She drew Chilli, a wonderful Skidmore horse. We all wanted to see Rachel succeed; she deserved it more than anyone. She has been the back bone of this team for the last four years. Rachel had never jumped a course at a show before she began competing in the IHSA. She is a very dedicated rider, taking more lessons and trips to the barn than anyone else. Rachel entered the ring focused and ready. She had a fabulous trip; I could see her thinking through every stride. She was called back in and completed a wonderful test. When they called her in reserve, I will admit to shedding a tear. It was worth all the hard work.

Congratulations Rachel, Good luck out there in the real world.
